You've got a fantastic new idea for revolutionising Customer Feedback using TXT messaging (aka SMS), with a director team of 3 professional bright sparks, a business plan, a revenue model - but you have no idea of the software required for your idea or even what it might look like. So how can you cost a software project? This is exactly where Smileworks were Feb 2007.
Enter Ignition Software. We used iterative brainstorming (loads of fun) with Smileworks to create a high level design, technology approach and an order of magnitude ballpark estimate. The design effort was kept to the minimum at this stage so that Smileworks could assess the feasibility of their concept without huge consulting fees (we like our clients to spend their money actually developing software).
Feasibility Result: start developing asap.
We used an iterative agile approach for this project to give Smileworks the flexibility to design and change both the software and their own business model as the project progressed. Several rounds of small deliveries completed the system over 6 months. Sure enough the business model and application both got simpler and better during development, as the two way process of delivering working software, evaluating the software so far, followed by another round of: "Review, rethink, brainstorm, develop more" unfolded.
